Hindi Varna Bodh Class Notes – Sunday, May 18
Namaste class,
I’ve been delinquent in sending out the class emails, but will try to complete the backlog soon.
In Hindi class dated Sunday, May 18, I took up the words on page 13 of the Hindi Vivek Part 1 book in class. Then we looked at Gender (लिंग) in Hindi. Hindi has two genders, Masculine and Feminine. I also gave some vocabulary on the board.
Masculine word | Translation | Feminine word | Translation |
---|---|---|---|
आदमी | Man | औरत | Woman |
लड़का | Boy | लड़की | Girl |
बेटा | Son | बेटी | Daughter |
पिता | Father | माता | Mother |
भाई | Brother | बहिन | Sister |
नाना | Maternal Grandfather | नानी | Maternal Grandmother |
दादा | Paternal Grandfather | दादी | Paternal Grandmother |
राजा | King | रानी | Queen |
मामा | Mother's Brother | मामी | Mother’s Brother’s Wife |
चाचा | Father's Younger Brother | चाची | Father’s Younger Brother’s Wife |
फूफा | Father's Sister's Husband | फूफी | Father’s Sister |
मौसा | Mother's Sister's Husband | मौसी | Mother’s Sister |
With the exception of the last two lines, most of the words in the above table have appeared in previous Hindi Varna Bodh exam papers, so you should learn them by heart (including spelling them properly). Those of you who did not attend class should write the above table in your books (and should also write all lessons that we cover in the Hindi Vivek Part 1 text in your copy book).
Regards,
Vasudev.
