Imperatives (Commands)

An imperative is that form of the verb giving a request of command. For example, eat the mango or don’t play here.

In Hindi, there are three words for ‘you’ and the verb is modified depending on what word for ‘you’ is used.

Hindi Word	Transliteration (Pronunciation)	Explanation
तू	Too	Used in intimate situations (e.g. between husband and wife), in abuse, or when addressing God
तुम	Tum	Used between peers or people you are familiar with
आप	Aap	Used to show respect, to elders and strangers

To form the imperative form of a verb, you obtain the root of the verb and then apply the following rules:
