Resources
Here are a few resources that I’ve used, which I think are pretty good.
Books
If you need additional help with your Hindi, check out these books, which I’ve used and have proved useful to me.
- Say It in Hindi (Dover Language Guides Say It Series) – This is a pocket sized book I’ve used with 2000+ words and phrases! Ideal for building a large vocabulary.
- Teach Yourself Hindi: Complete Course (Teach Yourself Language Complete Courses) (Hindi Edition) – I’ve had this Teach Yourself title for many years and still refer to it to clear up any doubts.
- Teach Yourself Hindi Dictionary (Teach Yourself Dictionaries) (English and Hindi Edition) – this learner’s dictionary was produced for the same Teach Yourself series. I’ve used it for over four years and it still proves to be useful.
- Complete Hindi: A Teach Yourself Guide (Teach Yourself Language)
– I haven’t bought this book, but it seems to be an updated version of the Teach Yourself Hindi book (above) by the same author.

Audio
If you don’t have time to sit and study, you can use audio books to study while you are driving or stuck in traffic!

Movies
Movies are one of the fastest ways to pick up a foreign language, because there is a lot of context to help you learn. These Hindi movies are my favourites, but you may look at any Hindi movies which strike your fancy. The key is to look at the movies four or five times with subtitles on, then view them without the subtitles. You will gradually begin to pick up the words and phrases the actors are saying. Search Google for ‘funny Hindi movies’ for more ideas!
- Dil Chahta Hai – My favourite Hindi movie! A fun film that everyone can watch!
- 3 Idiots – another great movie starring Aamir Khan, also over the top!
